- From the Memoirs of Patrick Nobis, Co-Founder of Nobis Care Homes

About the Patrick Nobis RCFE Scholarship Fund:

The Patrick Nobis RCFE Scholarship Fund honors a man who was a pioneering advocate for the Residential Care Society as a whole. In 1979 he opened his first RCFE along with his wife Carole. By 1981 he had founded the San Francisco Association of Residential Care Homes (SFARCH), serving as its President for twenty years.

His compassionate ambition was to educate the community, the state of California and administrators of RCFEs, and to lobby for the elderly. He served on such Boards as the Little Hoover Commission, resulting in the "RCFE Reform Act" of 1985 and the Coalition of Agencies Serving the Elderly (CASE) where he helped create consumer guides for professionals and the public.

Patrick's love of teaching led him to provide continuing education seminars through SFARCH to RCFE administrators. He was an adjunct lecturer & Long-Term Care Administration Program at SFSU in order to continue Patrick's work of ensuring compassionate, educated, and professional RCFE administrators.

Patrick, our much admired husband and father, dedicated his professional life to bringing dignity, peace and well-being to the elderly; our desire is that each person awarded this special scholarship will strive to follow the practice and spirit of his eldercare endeavors.
